The quintessential Posey straitjacket, reimagined in real leather. Closed sleeves, crossed arms, and that unmistakable color-coded collar—we just wanted it in leather. Bringing it to life wasn’t quite as simple as saying “make it in leather.”

01 / The origin

Does leather make everything better?

The idea for a leather version came from Athena Denial in Canada. Our canvas replica gave us a starting point: a familiar design that we already loved, and the chance to explore what it could become in leather.

That canvas foundation deserves its own credit. With the blessing of the original creators, we posed the question: what would it actually take? Our international partners put years of work and dozens of iterations into recreating the original. The leather project builds on that work, but has its own unique features and challenges.

For me, this is one of the best parts of Straitjacket Struggles: working with other people who love straitjackets and turning something we want in our own collections into something we can share. Our name is on the straitjacket, but the story belongs to this community.

02 / From canvas to leather

What makes this special.

Adapting the canvas design meant thinking about more than its appearance. Leather conforms to the body differently, so the straps and reinforcement also needed another look.

The same template. Different details.

We kept the exact same Posey template, but the strap leather went through several samples before we found a suitable material supplier. We switched from the classic toothed friction buckle to a traditional belt buckle, with grommets to reinforce the strap holes.

Real leather character.

For those of us who love leather, the material is a big part of the attraction. I don’t have enough quantifiable measurements to put a number on its quality. But talk to someone who has one of these straitjackets and they’ll tell you how thick the leather is and how well the interior and exterior are finished. As it conforms to your body, it envelops you in the scent and warmth of high-quality leather.

03 / Choosing your size

Finding your fit.

The leather and canvas replicas use the same dimensions, but many people report that the leather feels larger as it conforms to the body. If you’re solidly in the middle of your size range, I don’t recommend changing sizes. If you’re right on the borderline wondering whether to size up or down, go down—as long as your measurements fall within the smaller size’s range.

Availability and ordering

Current pricing, sizes, and availability are shown in the shop. XS and smaller, and XL and larger, will always be special orders. If your preferred size or configuration isn’t listed, get in touch.

05 / Added security

A buckle.
A lock.
A little more security.

Switching to traditional belt buckles gave us another detail to think about: how to add more security once the straps were adjusted. We added SEGUFIX-style pin locks at the buckles to help keep those straps secured in place.

The buckle sets the fit; the pin lock adds a keyed fastening at that point. It is a small addition that makes a difference for those of us who want a little more security from our straitjackets.
